How to get a great resin finish....

I want to share this tip with you as it changed my experience with resin....

If like me you have had some ups and downs with resin, sometimes looking beautifully smooth and clear and other times when the resin has cured, you find pits or bare spots on your artwork. Then here is a technique I use to get a really smooth clean finish on my acrylic art....

  • When my artwork is finished and signed I firstly make sure that the acrylic paint is completely dry.

  • I then get a clean cloth and add a drop of washing up liquid or soap onto it and rinse the cloth with a bit of water and squeeze it.

  • With the wet cloth I clean the surface of the painted artwork and then with a dry clean cloth, dry the surface. Repeat this several times until all traces of any grease has gone.

  • When the surface of the artwork is clean of any grease residue from finger tips or silicone oil, I then mix the resin ready to pour over the art.

(I find that when I mix silicone oil with my acrylic paints that this effects how the resin sticks to the surface of my artwork, and can create pits or bare spots in the resin. However by cleaning the artwork with a bit of water and washing up liquid (soap) and removing the grease residue on the surface of my artwork, it really does help the resin to cure with a lovely smooth and clean finish).

I hope you find this technique helpful when adding a resin coat to your acrylic art!

Best wishes
